Mental Health Awareness Week 2026

Take Action for Yourself, for Someone Else, for All of Us

Mental Health Awareness Week is one of the UK’s biggest opportunities to highlight the importance of mental wellbeing at work and in everyday life. This year’s theme, set by the Mental Health Foundation, is “Action: for yourself, for someone else, for all of us.” It encourages each of us to take practical steps, big or small, to improve mental health in our workplaces, communities and homes.

For employers, this week is a reminder that supporting mental health is not only the right thing to do, but essential for building a safe, productive and positive working environment.

Why Mental Health Awareness Matters in the Workplace

Good mental health is directly linked to performance, communication, safety and overall wellbeing. When employees feel supported, they are more confident, more resilient and more engaged in their roles.

Raising awareness helps organisations:

  • Reduce stigma around mental health

  • Improve understanding of stress, anxiety and low mood

  • Encourage early intervention

  • Strengthen team relationships and communication

  • Build a healthier, safer workplace culture

Even small actions can have a significant impact.

Action for Yourself

Taking care of your own mental wellbeing is the first step towards a healthier workplace. Simple, everyday actions can make a real difference:

  • Taking regular breaks

  • Setting boundaries and managing workload

  • Recognising early signs of stress

  • Talking openly with someone you trust

  • Making time for rest, movement and recovery

These small steps help build long‑term resilience.

Action for Someone Else

Supporting others doesn’t require expertise, just awareness and compassion. Taking action for someone else might include:

  • Checking in with a colleague

  • Noticing changes in behaviour or mood

  • Offering a listening ear

  • Encouraging someone to seek support

  • Creating space for honest conversations

A single conversation can change someone’s day, or their direction.

Action for All of Us

A mentally healthy workplace is built through shared responsibility. Organisations can take action by:

  • Promoting open conversations about mental health

  • Providing training that builds confidence and understanding

  • Encouraging supportive leadership

  • Creating policies that prioritise wellbeing

  • Ensuring staff know where to access help

When teams work together, the impact is felt across the whole organisation.
